Frequently  Asked Questions

How do I get started in the bodyguard business?

That's the most often asked question of a professional bodyguard.   The first way is to begin specific training in this field.   I keep emphasizing that training is a key element in being a "professional" bodyguard.   I've been in the business more than 20 years and I still attend a variety of training programs.   Learning the lessons offered in the Body for Hireseries is a good way to start.   Just as in any other profession, networking is the best way to gain employment.   Joining the International Association of Personal Protection Agents and attending other training programs are great ways to build contacts.

Where can I get more training?

Look at the PROFESSIONAL RESOURCES page for a partial list of companies and associations that offer professional training.   Please remember the training doesn't always need to be the "running & gunning" type most people think of.   One person I trained was a classically trained chef.   In very formal settings with caterers, a bodyguard member will be stationed in the kitchen to insure proper food preparation.  Knowing proper food preparation is the specialty for this agent.  Also explore training in electronic security.   When funds are limited on a contract, a professional team can sometimes augment themselves by using wireless surveillance equipment.

Is this video series accredited or certified by any state or federal agency?

Not yet, but we're working on it.   The Learning by Distance concept is relatively new to most regulatory agencies.   However, when we teach this program in person, students receive accredited in-service training points.

If someone else watches the training series with me can they also receive a certificate?

Yes.   Each person can fill out and submit their statement that they have watched the complete series. We will then issue them a certificate.

Does Hawk East, Inc. maintain a registry of people who have completed the video training?   Does Hawk East refer students to potential employers?

The answer to the first question is yes.   We keep an in-house registry of each person to whom we issue a certificate.   In regards to the other question, the answer is occasionally.   If you think you have the background, training, and experience necessary, submit a resume to us with references.   We will keep it on file for reference.
